Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder characterized by repeated episodes of partial or complete blockage of the upper airway during sleep. This can lead to decreased oxygen levels in the blood and disrupted sleep, resulting in a range of symptoms such as loud snoring, daytime sleepiness, and difficulty concentrating. OSA is a common condition, affecting millions of people worldwide, and is more likely to occur in people who are overweight, have large tonsils or a small jaw, or have a family history of the condition.

OSA can have serious health consequences if left untreated. It has been linked to an increased risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular problems, as well as an increased risk of motor vehicle accidents due to daytime sleepiness. OSA can also contribute to other health problems such as diabetes and depression.

Treatment for OSA typically involves the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine, which delivers a constant flow of air through a mask worn during sleep to help keep the airway open. Other treatments may include lifestyle changes such as weight loss and avoiding alcohol and sedatives, and in some cases, surgery may be recommended to remove excess tissue in the throat or to reposition the jaw. It is important for individuals with OSA to work with a healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate treatment plan.
Objective: Describe the effects of the illness, levels of prevention, best nursing practices in relation to the illness, developmental issues for the clients as well as caring and interdisciplinary strategies to address the bio-psychosocial and economic needs of those with the chronic illness. Reaction/Chronic Illness Paper Objectives: 1.Describe the reaction and reflection of the chronic illness experience. 2.Describe the effects of the illness, levels of prevention, best nursing practices in relation to the illness, developmental issues for the clients as well as caring and interdisciplinary strategies to address the bio-psychosocial and economic needs of those with the chronic illness. Include in the paper the following: Introduction/Reaction Include a brief introduction 1. Blogger’s reaction to the chronic illness diagnosis. Discuss within the paper three concepts as related to the chronic illness diagnosis (for example: stigma, quality of life, health promotion, sexuality, social isolation, adaptation, etc.) with peer-reviewed, research article references for each concept. Limit to one paragraph per concept. 5. Explore and discuss evidence of two (2) best nursing practices related to this illness with proposed interventions with research articles or systematic review (article should contain an abstract, background, methods, results, discussion) (referenced last 7 years). The research can be conducted internationally or nationally and does not need to be nursing research.
