Staff Allocation Error
Nursing informatics is the healthcare concept that comprises of application of information, knowledge in nursing science and analytical skills. The information, data or knowledge acquired must be managed to ensure it is communicated in the right way to enhance nursing practice (Dimitrov, 2016). Knowledge is used to help healthcare providers make an appropriate decision. For example, human resource managers in healthcare organizations require knowledge on the number of people they should allocate to each shift. In this case, a healthcare human resource professional cannot make the right decision without accurate data. The accurate data should comprise of a number of patients that should be served in each shift. Accurate decisions prevent wastage of resources or lowering the quality of patient care (Gann, 2015). For example, if the patients are not served within the expected time due to a shortage of staff, they will be dissatisfied.
Staff error can be solved in various ways. The first one is identifying the kind of error that has occurred. It should be analyzed on whether it occurred due to memory, rules, technical issues or knowledge (Brennan & Bakken, 2015). The role of the nurses is to collect data over a period of time to establish is a problem has been experienced (Brennan & Bakken, 2015). The data will indicate the number of patients in each period. It will be used in making an accurate allocation of personnel to handle the patients. The data will indicate the number of patients who are treated over weekends, weekdays, morning or evening hours and lunchtime. The flow of patients will inform the management of the number of healthcare providers needed.
Nurse leaders can use the information after it has been gathered, analyzed and interpreted to make a decision (Dimitrov, 2016). The data will be used to explain the kind of error experience in a healthcare facility. The results of the analyzed data will provide the best alternative solution to an error.
