Working Conditions for Nurses
Most nurses are complaining of poor working conditions as well as the nature of work. Nurses tend to work for very long hours, especially those on the night shift, experience some challenges while at work. Some of the nurses are stressed while others are burning out (Salem & Ebrahem, 2017). Some studies have been done and have shown that stress and burn ut is one of the physiological effects of working as a nurse. Therefore, stress and burning out are national health issues that need urgent consideration. All stakeholders need to take proper action to find an amicable solution to this challenge.
Stress and burn out may arise when nurses spend more time at work, or most of the time, the nurse is thinking about the delivery of healthcare service. Therefore, this is considered an occupational hazard to the nursing profession and is likely to reduce the productivity and delivery of care to patients (Delgado et al., 2017). In the long run, there will be minimal or reduce the provision of service to the patient. Nurses need resilience training to ensure they are easy to work with minimal stress and burnout.
Several health organizations are putting in place measures to address stress and burn out at the workplace. Firms are adopting the use of electronic health record systems. The system mange’s information about patients means a health officer will spend less time examining the patient records (Siepermann, Stadelhoff & Lackes, 2019). Other health institutions have come up with measures to improve employee wellbeing. Nurses are being accorded adequate benefits through medical, travel, and entertainment allowances, which allow them to engage in more social activities and become more activities. In some organizations, healthcare workers receive proper packages to ensure they deliver services to a patient without stress and burn out at the workplace.
