Definition of Mobility Essay

1.1 Identify the range of service provision for health and social care (adults and children and young people) early years and childcare in own local area.

Doctors Surgeries, offer a wide range of services to the public. Blood tests, medication for minor injuries, different types of vaccinations for example, flu vaccinations. They can also practise health check-up. They also provide health education, offer advice on smoking and diet and run regular clinics. Residential home, offer around the clock care for elderly people, who cannot look after themselves properly anymore.

They offer assistance and care for people, older people who are ill, vulnerable or are just unable to cope on their own. Workers help residents with things like, medication, getting dressed, bathing and also keep their residents spirits up and undertake different activities.

Day care, offer care and look after children throughout the day when parents/carers are in work etc. they offer a safe, happy environment in which the children are secure and well looked after.

They help children learn new skills like, numbers, colours, days of the week, right from wrong etc.

1.2 Outline the purpose of provision offered by different types of service.

The purpose of provision offered by different types of service is to keep the specified people, well, safe and happy. What I mean by this is for example, in a residential home the purpose is to keep elderly people, safe and help them with their day to day life but still giving them their independence and dignity. In doctors surgery the purpose is to keep the people in the community well and to help prevent illness, worry about their health, help the make the right decisions within their own health. The purpose of day care is for parents/guardians to be able to leave their children with qualified nursery nurses and to know that they will be happy and safe and won’t be exposed to anything which could be a danger.

1.3 Give examples of who would access different types of service provision.

Many different people would access different types of service provision. Doctor’s surgeries, everyone can attend, from new born to elderly. You can also have any illness or minor injury and if they think you need something they can’t provide they take it further and help you get the right help you need. Residential care is for elderly people. Mainly for people who are aged 70+. There are other types of residential care, for terminally ill people, vulnerable adults, homeless, disables etc. the qualified staff in each establishment can cater for every need in which that person will need. Day care is usually for children ages 3months to eight years. Day care is used for children when their parents/guardians are in work/busy etc.

1.4 Outline the difference between statutory and independent service provision.

Statutory service provision — services that are set up by the government. This means that the government has decided that everyone who has a particular need must be able to access services. The government also provide the money for the services and pay the wages of those who work there.

Independent service provision — services that are set up by a private sector. They offer paid services for those covered by insurance and the wages are covered by the corporation.

1.5 Outline how informal care contributes to service provision.

Informal care is other people such as friends/family taking the time to care for a relative/friend. For example if an elderly person did not want to go into residential care, a carer would come to the house 2-3 times a day and help them get up, washed dressed, help them down stairs or into the garden etc. and they usually come from an agency, hospital or charitable agency. Informal care from a family member could be someone coming after work or in their free time to see how they are or if they need anything doing etc. the same with a friend too. Informal care contributes to service provision by helping the service providers with certain things and can help make their job easier if the person doesn’t like change or new people around them and can just give the staff a break.

Know the range and scope of roles within the health and social care (adults and young people), early years and childcare.

2.1 Identify the range of job roles within different types of service.

There are many different job roles within different types of service. A doctors surgery for example have a wide range of job roles, these include; GP’sNursesHealthcare assistantsReceptionistsDieticiansPharmacists

In a residential home job roles can include;NursesManagerHousekeeping/cleanerCatererPerson activities leaderCarersMaintenance

In day care job roles include;Nursery nurseManagerSupervisorCaterer/cookCleaner

2.2 Identify the knowledge and skills required to work in a job role in the sector.

Basic skills and qualifications are needed for most jobs everywhere. Working with children, young adults, vulnerable adults and the elderly require some very certain skills.

These include;First aid trainingHealth and safety trainingCRB checksGood communicationPatience

2.3 Outline a range of progression routes for a worker within the sector.

Possibly progression routes through nursing through a general practise would be doing courses and keeping up to date with course training, would open doors to becoming higher up in your sector of nursing or even doctoring. In residential care possible routes could be becoming a senior nurse or becoming a higher up nurse in that particular sector. In a childcare role, progression routes could be becoming a more qualified nursery nurse.
